Nutritional benefits
Insects are rich in protein , vitamins, minerals, unsaturated fatty acids , and fiber . They are also low in saturated fat, making them an interesting alternative to red meat. Crickets, grasshoppers, and mealworms contain up to three times more protein than beef , and are therefore an ideal source of nutrients for vegetarians, people with food allergies, and athletes.
Environmental responsibility
Insects have a much smaller ecological footprint than other sources of animal protein. They require less water, less food , and produce fewer greenhouse gases . Furthermore, they can be raised in much smaller spaces than livestock, making them more practical to raise and transport.
According to the FAO, livestock farming is responsible for 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. By comparison, insect farming produces only 1% of greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, insect production requires significantly less water and feed than traditional livestock farming, with water usage reduced by 50 to 90%. Insects are also able to convert the food they consume into protein more efficiently than livestock, thus considerably reducing their carbon footprint.
And finally... insects are delicious!
Contrary to popular belief, insects aren't just nutritious, they're also delicious ! Their crunchy texture and subtle flavor lend themselves to a multitude of preparations: grilled, sautéed, or ground into powder to enhance your favorite dishes. At EatEct, we transform these little-known treasures into unique culinary experiences, designed to delight even the most curious and discerning palates.
